Brooklyn Wedding at The Picnic House in Prospect Park, Brooklyn NY

Brooklyn residents, Yukiha & Philip, chose to celebrate their wedding day at The Picnic House in Prospect Park. The charming and historic building is one of the multiple event spaces located in the popular park.

With access to the 90-acre Long Meadow, we were able to have the ceremony outdoors on the green without interfering or being interrupted by the folks out in the park enjoying the outdoors.

“We were so well-taken care of, anyone working with Yvonne as their wedding coordinator/planner is in good hands!”

Planning a Wedding at The Picnic Boathouse: What to Know

Important to note that The Picnic House is essentially a black canvas type event space, and not a catering or banquet hall. This means they only provide you with the space, tables and chairs ( you do have the option of bringing in your own rentals if you have a specific style in mind); everything else will need to be brought in to turn the blank canvas into your wedding day vision.

For Yukiha & Philip, we worked with the wonderful catering team at Purslane Catering who handled full catering (food and beverages) and additional rentals for the day.

With florals and decor, the couple wanted to keep things really simple, and eco-friendly. Fresh greenery that could be re-potted was used for the centerpieces, and the bride’s gorgeous bouquet was placed on the sweetheart table post ceremony as the main centerpiece. As a nod to their Asian heritage, we placed cute sake boxes as part of each guest place setting for the toast.

New York Wedding Planner's Recap on this Brooklyn Wedding

This venue works great for the couple who is looking to have a chill, laid-back wedding, and is not looking for something overly grand or ornate. Keep in mind parking within the park is limited, and still requires a bit of a walk from the parking lot to the venue for guests. However, if guests are taking an Uber or car service then this will not be an issue, as the venue is close to a park exit.

Depending on your guest count, The Picnic House could be a reasonably priced option for a couple looking to have a micro-wedding or with under a hundred guests. For more details on the venue, what’s included, rates and more check out their website.

Favorite Wedding Planner Moment

My favorite moments from the day was being part of keeping a surprise video from Yukiha’s grandparents a secret. Seeing the joy, and overwhelming emotions on her face when the video played was a testament of the love within the family. Also, her Dad’s surprise speech is probably one of the best I’ve witnessed. It referenced family history, sacrifices made by past generations, love and pride that the family had for their daughter, and how that was now being openly extended to Philip. There was not a dry eye in the room as he spoke.
