As you already know, at EventsbyMayven we love love, and ultimately love to plan and coordinate weddings! However, we also love to see women being able to rise above tough seasons in their life and turn what was meant to be a mess into a message that inspires other women. So when we got the call to take on planning for the New York leg of the ‘On Becoming’ by Toke Makinwa book tour, we were excited! For those of you who might not be familiar with her, Toke Makinwa is a well-known media personality in Nigeria with a YouTube vlog that garners millions of views, which in turn has given her a large social media following. She’s currently the brand ambassador for brands such as Ciroc Nigeria, Nestle – Maggi, Mecran Cosmetics to mention a few. Like us, she too loves love but sometimes things just do not work out as we hope even after saying ‘I Do’. Through it all, Toke was able to hold on to her faith, support system of family and friends to not only get through, but ultimately become a stronger version of herself; hence the title ‘On Becoming’. Today, she’s happy to share her story with any and everyone who can find the message in it, and apply it to their own journey of becoming whatever they set out to be or achieve.
Attendees were treated to hors d’oeuvres and wine accompanied with lite music while they networked and chatted away prior to the start of the event. Following this, the session started with the host interviewing Toke on her journey, her marriage, the book and what’s she’s looking forward to becoming. The floor then opened for questions from attendees after which, all attendees got a chance to get their book signed and take a picture with Toke.
